In the new trailer, No Way Home doubles down on what was teased at the end of Far From Home and what we’ve learned from previous trailers, and even a few spoilery leaks: This Spider-Man movie will bust-open the multiverse, allowing characters — and actors — from previous Spider-Man franchises to bleed into the MCU. Essentially, No Way Home will make WandaVision‘s casting stunt with Evan Peters look tiny by comparison. As crossover movies go, No Way Home seems to be changing the game. Jamie Foxx returns as the villain Electro, reprising his role from the 2014 Andrew Garfield flick, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We also hear from Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and catch glimpses of the Lizard, Sandman (Spider-Man 3), possibly Norman Osborne/Hob Goblin. (Though it’s unclear if that role would be played by James Franco or Dane Dehaan, or someone else.) And then there’s Doc Ock, once again played by Alfred Molina, last seen in the role in the 2004 opus Spider-Man 2, starring Tobey Maguire. But, in this newest trailer, it’s clear that Doc Ock realizes what’s going on with the multiverse shenanigans and, seemingly, decides to team up with Peter, Ned, and MJ. This is an utterly appropriate twist because of all the baddies in the Spidey rogue’s gallery, Doc Ock is the one who never really wanted to be a villain in the first place. In Spider-Man 2, he’s a kindly scientist who gets a little overwhelmed with his zany invention. In a sense, Doc Ock is more like the Darth Vader of the Spidey mythos, a villain to be sure, but we also know that there’s still good in him. The new trailer stopped short of confirming what’s been on everyone’s mind: Whether or not both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are in the film as Spider-Men from other universes. Certain photo leaks make it seem real, but at this point, the only thing we know for sure is that all these classic villains are back. And with Molina’s excellent Doc Ock teaming-up with Spidey this time around, this movie literally can’t lose. Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17. Tickets go on sale on November 29.
